Borehole pressure & tank level monitoring system using GPRS/GSM Wireless reporting  technology:

The solution is comprised of:

  • a wireless data transceiver terminal
  • a power source
  • a level sensorItem No
  • software.

The solution is comprised of:
The wireless data transceiver terminal is mounted on the outside or inside of the borehole or tank.  A power source provides power to the terminal. The power source would normally be a battery pack providing enough power to enable the terminal to operate for at least 18 months without having to be re-charged.  A non-rechargeable battery can also be used that will provide for between 5 and 10 years. When a stable power source (Electricity) is available, this should be used. The terminal is connected to the level sensor by means of an armoured communication cable. The sensor determines the level depth of the water within the borehole/tank. This data is then transmitted to a PC Server via GPRS/GSM where the software allows the user to check and analyse this data as deemed fit.

The level sensor is submerged into the borehole or tank to determine the current depth level in the borehole. Depending on the settings, the terminal could send data to the PC at regular intervals or data in real time. At his stage the probe only sends data about the depth of the water within the borehole or tank.    Whatever other data is required will be accommodated within the next model.

The PC Server will be connected to the internet by means of a public IP address. The software will be loaded on to the PC Server, where this software will receive all data transmitted via the wireless data transceiver terminal and display this data for monitoring, analysing and management.

There is also an option to send the data to the cloud from where it can be retrieved by anyone that has access to the server.

Solutions Introduction:
IThe wireless data transceiver terminal is the central component and is the most integral part of the systems’ design.

The terminal is designed to work continuously. It is linked to a suitable power supply based on the user’s requirements and work environment, thus it aims to ensure prolonged working time.

There are two (2) options for power supply: one is battery, the other alternative is an external power supply such as a solar panel or grid tied electricity supply.

The user can either elect to use the supplied DC battery, which can be operated on a “time/ dormancy” program to save power and to ensure a longer operation time or the user can elect to use an external power supply.

In order to ensure the systems’ operation and reliability of the data transceiver over a greater distance, GSM/ GPRS wireless communication is used. The wireless multi-band communication protocol is 850MHz/ 900MHz/ 1800MHz/ 1900MHz. A SIM card is provided   for the communication and data is provided free of charge for the first year.

The software will save all the data in the cloud and gives the user unlimited access to the data. Password levels can be set up to provided different levels of access.

The cloud service allows anyone with the correct access level to access any/all the information.

The software will run on any Windows platform from Windows 7 upward. The user can check the borehole level and set the basic functions by means of the software on the above mentioned operating systems.

The software is locally developed and any changes that the user might need will be discussed and if feasible, will be implemented.

The basic set-up is that the system will automatically do a reading every 15 minutes (user selectable) and store this information in its memory. It will then make a connection via GPRS every 24 hours (user selectable) and send the collected data, for this period, to the cloud server where it will be put into a format the client will understand. This data can then be manipulated to the client’s requirements.
The raw data will consist of:

  • Borehole Name
  • Date
  • Time
  • Depth of water in the borehole
  • GPS Position

The piezo-resistive ceramic pressure level sensor consists of a digital pressure transmitter and is IP68 grade waterproof. The measurement accuracy is 0.2% F.S. ,0.5 %F.S. Its features include: stable operation, high reliability and it is small in size.

Structure and installation instructions:
The wireless data transceiver terminal is connected to the level sensor by means of the communication cable.

The design does not contain any user input devices as all settings can be set via the GPRS communication interface. This prevents any problems that may occur by unqualified people interfering with the terminal. The wireless data terminal will be connected to the borehole by means of a bracket that will allow the terminal as well as the power supply to be fitted inside the borehole housing (if required). The terminal is safe, water proof, easy to install and to maintain. The final installation instruction will be determined by the user’s unique working environment and situation.

New developments
A new more powerful unit is now available. This device has the following enhancements:
Ability to switch pumps and other devices on and off
Has GPS capability
Has fault reporting capabilities
Will report if device is moved or  stolen
Has the capability of attaching various other types of probes for alternative  water monitoring. E.g. water quality etc.
Remote weather sensing functions can be set up.

All of these functions can be added to the existing unit at additional costs.
